Forensic

Penile plethysomgraph, Sex Offenders, Sexual Addiction, Anger Management, Chemical Dependency, Psychological Testing The Edd Clinic provides forensic evaluations for a number of reasons related to the legal system, job or family.  These are usually requested by the court or attorney and may include sex offender evaluations or risk assessments, psychopathy assessments, substance abuse evaluations, anger assessments or treatment for any of these.

PPG

The penile plethysmograph, also known as the PPG, is a diagnostic procedure most commonly used in sex offender evaluations. It takes measures of sexual arousal that assist in planning and treatment, such as for purposes of rehabilitation. The PPG is most often included as part of a more comprehensive sex offender evaluation.

Sex Offenders

Dr. Edd is a Registered Sex Offender Treatment Provider (RSOTP)  and is listed as such with the Council on Sex Offender Treatment of the Texas Department of Health.  He treats sex offenders in both group and individual therapy.  Sex offender evaluations consist of a comprehensive psychosocial history, sexual history and testing.

Sexual Addiction

Like eating, sex is a normal, pleasurable activity.  Sexual activity can also become compulsive and interfere with other activities of daily living like job and relationships.  It can cause problems on the job, destroy relationships and become a maladaptive method of coping.

Anger Resolution Therapy

Anger is often a destructive force in our lives and relationships.  The purpose of anger management is to interrupt and change the destructive cycle.  While anger is a natural emotion, it can be harmful to self and others if expressed in inappropriate ways.  The objective of anger management therapy is to find more appropriate expressions of anger and to decrease its negative effects.

Chemical Dependency

Dr. Edd is Proficiency in the Treatment of Alcohol and Other Psychoactive Substance Use Disorders.  With substance abuse, therapy focuses on factors that contribute to the abuse and addictive cycles.  Effort is made to help the individual remain sober, functional and productive.  This may involve a variety of approaches and also bringing significant others into the person's support system.

Psychological Testing

Psychological testing is used for diagnostic accuracy.  Intellectual and personality tests give the clinicians information that assists in treatment.  The Edd Clinic administers psychological and neuropsychological testing to answer questions that relate to a patient's treatment.  It helps in diagnosing various conditions and assessing cognitive functioning. These tests may include pre-employment or fitness-for-duty evaluations.

Psychopathy

An essential part of many of Dr. Edd's evaluations is assessment of psychopathy.... Antisocial Personality Disorder is described in DSM-IV simply as ‘a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others that begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues into adulthood… This pattern has also been referred to as psychopathy, sociopathy, or dyssocial personality disorder’ (American Psychiatric Association, 1994, p. 645)

The above information is not intended to be a complete description of these disorders and their treatment.  It is also not intended as a self-help guide.  It is only given to help you decide if your problem is one with which Dr. Edd specializes.  All therapy is individualized and your therapy may not necessarily be carried out exactly as described above.
